About this listen
Reuben D’Silva’s life is a uniquely American story—a journey from Mumbai to Northeast Las Vegas, where he grew up in an immigrant family facing the real risk of deportation. A proud Rancho High School graduate, D’Silva served as his senior class president before enlisting in the U.S. Marines straight out of school. In Iraq, he became a decorated veteran, earning the Purple Heart after being wounded in action. After his service, D’Silva completed his undergraduate degree at UNLV, went on to earn master’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Yale, and then came home to teach history at Rancho High, the very school that shaped him. Today, as the first Indian-American elected to the Nevada State Assembly, he represents the district and neighborhood he calls home, advocating for education, opportunity, and the next generation of Nevadans.
