 Als großer Außenseiter startete der SV Wilhelmshaven in die erste Bundesligasaison 1990/1991 – am Ende fehlte ein Punkt zum Klassenerhalt. Auch wenn der Verein so eine Randnotiz im deutschen Fußball bleibt, verbindet diese Saison die Spielerinnen des Clubs bis heute. Sie treffen sich bis heute mehrmals im Jahr und sind auch ohne Einsatz auf dem Rasen weiterhin ein Team.
