About this listen

Music intro by: Gail Nobles

Hello I'm Gail Nobles and you’re listening to NEEDLE HOUSE RECORDINGS, music and songs from peoples lives. We all have ups and downs trying to make things work out which is what I've been going through and what others have been going through.

Today I'm going to talk about a song titled I'm in a Different World written and produced by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Edward Holland Jr. "I'm in a Different World" is the final single that Holland–Dozier–Holland produced for the Four Tops.

Lead vocal by: Levi Stubbs

Background vocals by: Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Lawrence Payton and Renaldo "Obie" Benson

Additional background vocals by: The Andantes (An American female session group for Motown).

Instrumentation by: The Funk Brothers

And of course, you know the record label: Motown.

The single was released in 1968. "I'm in a Different World" peaked at number 51 on the US pop chart and number 27 on the UK chart. No. 33 on the US Billboard Best selling R& B singles chart.

If you listen to the song I'm in a Different World and read the lyrics, you might understand that you're in a different world too. The lyrics say: When the love light shines upon my face
I'm in a different world …”

That’s the kind of world that we want to be in. The world that sweet and true.

I am Gail Nobles, and you listening to Needle House Recordings.
