    9 June 2004 at 3.00 pm and 15 June 2024 at 2.00 pm

Cast: Adam Schultz as "David O Selznick", Scott Battersby as “Victor Fleming", Terry Crowe as “Ben Hecht" and Rebecca Gardiner as “Miss Poppenguhl".

In June at the Arts Theatre find out how the film “Gone with the Wind” was saved from being gone with the wind!

Hollywood, February 1939: Acclaimed movie producer David O. Selznick has a problem: his massively hyped production of “Gone With The Wind” is bleeding big money, the script is unfilmable, he has fired the director and the production has been shut down. Disaster looms! He needs a new script and a new director now!

With renowned screenwriter Ben Hecht (who hasn’t read the book) and celebrated director Victor Fleming (already up to his eyeballs in directing “The Wizard of Oz”), and a diet of bananas and peanuts, he locks the group in his office for five days to create a screenplay that will save the film. Filming the burning of Atlanta is easier than this!

“It’s a blend of lively nonsense and a tribute to the golden years of Hollywood moving making, with over-sized egos and larger than life personalities,” explains director Harry Dewar. “Based loosely on the real difficulties that the film faced in 1939, it’s an insight into what might have happened to get one of the greatest movies ever made up onto the screen.”

Frankly my dears, you must see this play!!

  • Of Good Stock
    Apr 23 2024

Episode Five - Of Good Stock

    Written by Melissa Ross

    Directed by Kym Clayton

    Produced by Galleon Theatre Group

    Synopsis

The three Stockton sisters (Jess, Amy and Celia) are witty, brilliant, beautiful, and dysfunctional. When their father, legendary novelist Mick Stockton died, he left his three daughters a house in Cape Cod, control over his books, and a whole lot of issues. He was a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist who had many affairs, and their mother died young, and it's left them all pretty messed up. It's Jess's 41st birthday and she and her husband Fred have invited her younger sisters to their house on Cape Cod to celebrate. It's an important milestone for Jess: she's surpassing the age of her mother, who died from cancer years ago. Amy is joined by her fiancé, Josh. Celia, the youngest, brings Hunter, her boyfriend. Their reunion ignites passions, humour, and wildly unanticipated upheavals. The men struggle to be a part of this elusive family's legacy. Of Good Stock is a raw, poignant, and hilarious look at the fun and dysfunction of that thing we call family.

  • A Shortcut to Happiness
    Apr 9 2024

This episode of For the Love of Theatre Podcast showcases the Therry Dramatic Society and their current production, A Shortcut to Happiness, with a sneaky peek behind the scenes. There are interviews with the President of Therry, Jill Bartlet, Actors Shelley Crooks & Lindsay Dunn, who is also the President of T.A.S.A, The Theatre Association of South Australia.

You won't want to miss this one!

Another Therry and S.A. premiere. From the pen of Roger Hall who brought you our very successful production of Four Flat Whites in Italy, comes another of his trademark comedies.

    A SHORTCUT TO HAPPINESS.

For Hall, the play was inspired by author Vicki Baum’s quote, “There are a few shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them”, and an international folk dancing class that Hall joined. He soon realised the beginnings of a play might be in the works!

    SUMMARY

Russian migrant Natasha starts a folk-dance class to supplement her earnings as a cleaner while she perfects her English and studies to become a music teacher. Unlike the locals, Natasha is blunt, tactless and doesn’t see her new country through rose-tinted glasses. The dance class attracts a group of senior misfits, two widows desperate to find an eligible man, a couple who fill their days with classes, and a recent widower!

  • The Explorers Club
    Mar 20 2024

Episode Two - The Explorers Club

The episode features an Interview with the Director, Emily Currie, the FULL Ensemble Cast, Music Composed by Phil Short (for this production) & along with insights from one of Stirling Players' Volunteers, Costume Designer, Gilian Cordell.

Summary of the play, written by Nell Benjamin:

The prestigious Explorers Club in London 1879 is in crisis. The Acting President wants to admit a woman and the bartender is terrible. True, this female candidate is brilliant, beautiful and has discovered a legendary Lost City, but the decision to let in a woman could shake the very foundations of the British Empire, and how do you make such a decision without a decent drink?

A fast-paced farce about science, ego, passion and romance, the Explorers Club is quick witted, vibrant and energetic. The writing channels elements of ‘Blackadder’, twisting historic realism with absolute fantasy. This play has a beating, silly heart that audiences are sure to love.
