Because that's where the waters are calm, that's where they can literally be at peace. However to sail there, there has to be a will to survive as they face unforgiving large waves. Your storm might not be as the pirates at sea, it could be a relentless endless loop of mindless chatter and having no idea how to stop it or a challenge which can be eating you up.
