About this listen

In 2022, Northwestern announced plans to rebuild Ryan Field—the football stadium for the Wildcats for the last 97 years. In the year following, the debate around the plans for a new Ryan Field rose to a crescendo, with two camps firmly entrenched in their perspectives. For some in Evanston, the new stadium was a welcomed concept; for others, it was a death knell to what makes the city Northwestern calls home the place that is is. A year of reporting raised hard questions about a team, a university, a city, and a possibility of finding balance when so people are so stout in their perspectives. Field of Broken Dreams tells the story of everything that followed Northwestern's announcement of plans to rebuild Ryan Field. Host Mack Jones investigates the pain points that have risen for so many at Northwestern and in the city of Evanston as a byproduct of this announcement. Along the way, he uncovers hard truths about a school, a town, and a team who stand at a crossroads of what is and what could be.Copyright 2023 The Evanstonian Football (American) Political Science Politics & Government
