About this listen

Hello there and welcome to our half way point of this Festive Mini Shenanigans series as we countdown to Christmas Eve with a different play every day.

Our fifth playwright of this series is James Kelsey Nelson (https://www.jameskelseynelson.com/ & https://newplayexchange.org/users/88410/james-kelsey-nelson) from Chicago. He’s a director and playwright who’s full length plays have been produced by Live Arts: Water Works 2024, Gallery plays and black box new play festival 2025. His many short plays have been produced around the country and abroad and if that wasn’t enough he has a MFA from Indiana University and a BA from UMKC in his hometown of Kansas City.

Jame’s play is called “Naughty or Nice” (https://newplayexchange.org/script/3197577/naughty-or-nice). When talking about his inspiration he says “Krampus is one of the most absurd and hilarious figures from holiday folklore, so it only feels right to pay tribute to our child-flaying goat demon King with a very silly piece of theatre.”

Synopsis:

Santa Claus and the holiday goat-demon Krampus accidentally arrive at the same house on Christmas Eve: will the poor Rogers children be deemed naughty or nice?

Cast:

Krampus - George Sapio (https://newplayexchange.org/users/785/george-sapio & https://gsapio.wixsite.com/gsapio)

Santa - Jeff Tullin (https://twitter.com/Jeff_Tullin)

Buttercup - Hannah Lee DeFrates (https://newplayexchange.org/users/58102/hannah-lee-defrates)
