• Yellowstone Weekly: How does Old Faithful work???
    Jan 20 2026

Have you ever wondered just how Old Faithful works?? That is the question that Becky from Wisconsin sent to us at exploreyellowstonelikealocal@yahoo.com and you too can send in any question you want in regards to the parks and we will answer them on our new podcast and You Tube series called Yellowstone Weekly as well as posting the podcasts on our top rated podcasts Explore Yellowstone Like a Local.

In this short podcast, we discuss the plumbing that makes the world's most famous geyser erupt and how, when I was a kid, how it went off about every hour and why today, it only goes off about every 90 minutes.

We will discuss what one key element in nature keeps all the geysers in one piece under all the tremendous pressures they are subject to during each eruption. And id you want to see some pics and videos of this podcast, just go to You Tube and check it out.

    Thanks, Teddy Garland

    Jan 19 2026

This podcast is part of our new shortened podcast and You Tube series called Yellowstone Weekly where we answer questions you guys send to us and we also discuss current events in the park that may affect your trip this summer.

In this podcast, Dave from Florida asked us "which Visitors Center its the best one to visit??" And hands down, that is the VC at the Canyon Area. And for a little icing on the cake, we also discuss one of my other favorite stops in the park, the fabulous Map Room in the Mammoth Hotel which was designed by famed park architect Robert Reemer who also designed the Old Faithful Inn that many of you have probably already seen.

    Jan 11 2026

This podcast covers the section of the road from Tower Junction all the way through the NE entry gate to Silver Gate and Cooke City. You will pass through the glacially boulder strewn lower and then upper Lamar Valley's where the Wolves of Yellowstone hunt in packs and I also get you to the best spots to see a Grizzly Bear as well as thousands of Bison.

  • Exploring the road from Old Faithful to the South Gate. We stop at Isa Lake, then attempt to kayak across Lewis & Shoshone Lakes. Stop at Moose Falls for a quick dip and then hit the seldom seen Flagg Ranch Road.
    Jan 11 2026

This podcast covers the section of road south from Old Faithful down to West Thumb and then down to the South Gate and then we drive along the seldom seen but beautiful Flagg Ranch/Marysville/Grassy Lake Road.

You will hear a story about how not to hike in bear country then we stop at the only lake in the US that flows into both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. We visit a great picture spot that where you can see just how big Yellowstone Park really is then talk about a not so great hike to Heart Lake that my dad used to drive to in the 1950's. And then possibly the best kayak adventure you will ever experience on Lewis and Shoshone Lakes and my futile effort at it once which really pissed me off.

I also tell you about how you can swim and possibly cliff jump in the warm waters of Moose Falls with the water pouring all over you and its just a minute from your car. Then we take a short drive on the rarely used Marysville/Grassy Lake/Flagg Ranch Road to a great backcountry hike to Cascade Acres and the gorgeous Terraced Falls which is a hike totally suitable for kids but is rarely used as no one even knows it exists.

  • West Yellowstone to Madison Junction. How to save time getting in the Main Entry Gate into Yellowstone National Park. Where to see Bison in the spring and hear the Elk bugle in the fall. Plus a very important story about the 3 Brothers.
    Jan 11 2026

This podcast covers how you need to go through the West Entry Gate which is by far the busiest entry gate into Yellowstone Park and this gorgeous 14 mile section of road all the way to Madison Junction.

We will pass through Christmas Tree Alley and then look for Bald Eagles on the banks of the Madison River on our way to the 7 mile bridge and a couple of interesting stories about this area.

I will also give you the history of how the idea of the worlds first national park came to be when 3 Brothers bravely entered Yellowstone in the 1850's and show you the three iconic peaks named after them that thousands of people see everyday but don't even know are there.

And tell you what animals you will see and more importantly, when you can see them, in the two meadows along this section of road and also how to not get stuck behind them as you drive down the road.

Plus one story about possibly the coolest thing I have ever seen in the park in 60 years.

We cover some really great in town dining options including an award winning pizza and where you can take your picture in front of a huge Bison just before dinner as well as some really great places to eat a short drive away including the really fun Happy Hour Bar where you might get "honked", the beautiful Elk Lake Camp and a place where you can dine in one of the 1000 places to visit before you die.

  • Fun things to do just outside Yellowstone and Grand Teton! Horseback Riding, Fly Fishing, Riding ATV's, Mountain Biking, Kayaking, White Water Rafting and Big Sky!
    Jan 10 2026

This podcast covers all the fun things you can do just outside of Grand Teton and Yellowstone parks. There is a reason that hardly any of the locals from West, Jackson or Big Sky ever go into the parks and the reason for that is that there is a TON of really fun and exiting things to do right outside the parks boundaries that are NOT allowed inside the parks.

We cover how West Yellowstone is the Fly Fishing capital of the world and why movie stars, sports stars, planes full of Russians and now you flock to West Yellowstone to go fly fishing and you might catch up to 75 trout on your first day.

We then cover where to rent and ride ATV's including the new and very safe side by side units on the best trails in the US right outside YNP. I then tell you how you can ride on the unbelievable Idaho Dunes where you can ride a bad ass unit up and down 500' tall sand dunes on one of the largest dune complexes in the world that are only an hours drive from both Jackson Hole and West Yellowstone.

Then we jump on a mountain bike and ride along the wildflower strewn meadows of the easy Rendezvous Trail right in West Yellowstone then hit the CDT Trial to ride in what looks like a picture postcard. We also cover and advanced mountain biking tours to the very seldom seen Goose and Otter Lakes and how I can help you get on trails suited to your groups abilities no matter who is riding with you.

We then go over the best places to white water raft, kayak and SUP. We cover the Gallatin River where they filmed the movie A River Runs Through It with Brad Pitt and its 30 super fun named rapids with an end of the day jump off the Presidents Bridge. As well as the Bear Trap Canyon which is one of the top 10 1 day floats in the US where you will run the world famous Kitchen Sink Rapids.

We discuss padding your own SUP or kayak on the calm turquoise waters of a lake which look like you are in the Caribbean or down a river where you might see a moose or two up close. We then cover boating on Lake Hebgen where you can find a couple rope swings to get wet on a warm day or catch a record trout on Lake Henrys.

And we cover the wonderful Big Sky area and all it has to offer including golf for the boys and a spa day for the girls while the kids enjoy hunting for gold or riding the Zip Lines. We finish off the podcast rising Razors on 400' tall sand dunes with are located right outside the boundaries of both Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

  • Exploring Tower Junction to the Canyon area. We stop at Tower Falls, get down the the Yellowstone River then look for a few more bears before we summit Mt. Washburn and finally find the elusive Moose on the way to a great hike for kids.
    Jan 10 2026

This podcast starts at the rather boring Tower Junction which is home to the rather fun Chuckwagon Dinner that starts at the Roosevelt Stables.

We then drive through the Narrows on the way to Tower Falls and I tell you how to not only see the falls but about the crazy boulder that used to sit it's summit and then how to access the Yellowstone River from the viewing platform that hardly anyone knows about in the guidebook.

We then continue along the North Loop and summit Mount Washburn and I tell you where NOT to hike as well as where you SHOULD hike in this area on a great hike the a is one of the best for small kids.

And as usual, I throw in a couple of short stories about sleeping with an Elk and skateboarding down Dunraven Pass before I tell you where you can find the elusive Moose like they were let out of a pen in the evening.
