El origen de la sokatira es un poco incierto. Ahora bien, aunque no se sepa con certeza si el origen es este, se encontraron pinturas en Egipto del año 2.500 a.C. Por incierto que resulte, no deja de ser sorprendente la antigüedad y el lugar. Además, tuvo un recorrido curioso pasando por la antigua Grecia para llegar sin previo aviso a China.
