About this listen
Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova was a noblewoman of Russia who lived in the 1700s. She had everything she could want, money, land and power. But Darya liked to abuse her power over her serfs so much so that she would later be called 'The Tormentor'. Her brutal treatment of her serfs gained attention from the Empress herself, Catherine The Great. This case became a turning stone of the new 'Enlightened Russia' for nobles under Catherine The Great's rule.
