About this listen
Councilwoman Katherine Felton joins Izzy and David for the seventh episode of Voices of the Albemarle to speak about her adolescence as a young activist in Elizabeth City.
Ms. Felton provides an inside look at her personal experience with protest marches and peaceful demonstrations, like the one at the W.T. Grant lunch counter on Main Street. From joining nonviolence protest classes at age 11 to personally meeting Dr. King in Elizabeth City at age 16, Felton illustrates the strength of her character and beliefs through stories of her childhood in activism and adulthood as the first Black female department head.
