About this listen

After weeks on the road, Joel shares how he’s seeing states trying to remove our freedom to choose the foods we want to eat. From herdshares to PMAs and buying clubs, he reports on what’s happening around the country and how regulators don’t trust family farmers to provide safe food.

Joel and Sina also talk about how the government and industry continue to nudge our choices. They first shaped our perception with the Food Guide Pyramid (now MyPlate). Now, in many places, they shape our options by forbidding sales of foods they don’t approve of.

So most of us are corralled to grocery stores, gas stations, fast-food chains, and restaurants. Want to buy from a local farmer without a government-licensed kitchen? In plenty of jurisdictions, that’s illegal.

How did we get to a place where farmers aren’t trusted and where we’re okay with the government deciding which foods are “safe” to eat and which are off-limits?

We want to hear from you!

This Week’s Community Question:

“Would you trust your local farmer over a bureaucrat to approve the safety of the food you put on your plate?”
