I always find it strange when police are asked what is their name and badge number and they respond with "right here". Whether it is their departmental policy to identify is not the point; it is the courteous thing to do. By them not identifying or giving some smug answer such as "you tell me your name first" only serves to widen the gap between law enforcement and the public.
