Demetrius Terrence Frazier was an Alabama death row inmate whose crimes span decades and involve a series of brutal sexual assaults and the murder of 13-year-old Crystal Kendrick in Birmingham. Beginning in the mid-1990s, Frazier targeted women and girls—often breaking into homes and attacking his victims while they slept. For years, the cases remained unsolved until advances in DNA testing connected him to multiple rapes and ultimately to Crystal’s 1994 murder. His arrest led to a deeper investigation that uncovered his long pattern of predatory violence. Frazier was convicted and sentenced to death, and Alabama later set his execution by nitrogen hypoxia—making his case one of the first in the state to involve the controversial method.
