Elizabeth Smart, a teenager from Salt Lake City, Utah, was abducted from her bedroom in June 2002 and held captive for nine months. She was eventually rescued in March 2003 after being recognized in public. Smart has since become an advocate for victims of abduction and sexual assault, sharing her story and working to prevent similar crimes.
