About this listen
Welcome to the very first episode of Heading into SEND! In this opening chapter, I share the winding, anything‑but‑straight path that led me to headship.
I talk about starting my working life as a joiner, the inspirational teacher, Mrs Jones, who pushed me to believe I could do more, and the moment I first stepped into a school as a cover supervisor. From qualifying as a history teacher through the GTP route, to leading behaviour, curriculum and assessment, shifting into maths, and eventually moving into the world of SEMH and SEND as Deputy Head at Keystone… it’s been a journey full of twists, challenges, and meaningful turning points.
I also explore why Simon Sinek’s idea of “Start With Why” resonates so strongly with me, and how that sense of purpose now drives my work as Headteacher at Axis - and the creation of this podcast.
If you’re curious about the person behind the mic, the story behind the journey, or the purpose behind Heading into SEND, this episode is the perfect place to begin.
