 Se oggi esiste l'Unione Europea lo dobbiamo alla firma dei Trattati di Maastricht del 1992. Evento che ha consegnato alla storia una cittadina olandese fino a quel momento anonima. Da quella firma è partita la costruzione di un'Unione che ha per motto «Uniti nella diversità», ed è un motto che Mauro, originario di Trento, è riuscito a vivere sulla sua pelle solamente quando ha deciso di lasciare l'Italia e di trasferirsi ad Amsterdam, la capitale dei Paesi Bassi. Dove finalmente ha potuto vivere sentendosi esattamente uguale a chi lo circondava.
