Grigorij Efimovič Rasputin è una figura chiave nella storia degli ultimi zar russi. Nato nel 1869 in Siberia, dopo alcuni pellegrinaggi nei villaggi vicini, passa dall’essere un semplice contadino al diventare mistico e maestro spirituale. Nel 1905 arriva a San Pietroburgo e qui conquista fin da subito la fiducia di Nicola II e di sua moglie Alessandra, anche e soprattutto per le sue incredibili doti di guaritore: è infatti l’unico che riesce a guarire lo zarevic Alessio, affetto da emofilia. Nonostante i numerosi scandali e pettegolezzi che si lascia dietro, dovuti alla sua incontenibile libidine, Rasputin manterrà sempre un notevole ascendente sulla famiglia Romanov e contribuirà in gran parte alla sua rovina.
