 Durante la rivoluzione francese vennero piantati in tutta la Francia i cosiddetti “Alberi della libertà”. Con il tempo in tutta Europa, molti paesi seguirono questa tradizione francese, piantando alberi che simboleggiavano la libertà. In Italia, dopo la morte di Giovanni Falcone, il popolo protestò contro le mafie e si servì di un Ficus che si trovava vicino all’abitazione di Falcone per lasciare messaggi d’amore e di protesta; ancora oggi è un simbolo di speranza e coraggio.
