 Dopo l'affermazione alla Carnegie Hall nel 1938, iniziò per Benny un periodo di grande notorietà ma anche di grandi cambiamenti: tenere in piedi un'orchestra stabile diventò sempre più difficile e i gusti del pubblico vennero sempre più attratti dalle nuove tendenze musicali e di intrattenimento. Fu così che riprese vita il grande amore tra Benny e la musica classica.
