About this listen

In this episode of The Bowhunters Journal Podcast, Sean interviews Craig Meyers from Michigan who recounts his remarkable hunt in Ohio for a trophy buck known as 'Crabs.' Craig, a non-resident hunter, has been bow hunting since he was 12, on a property he's managed for the past four years. He discusses how EHD affected the deer population early on, and his dedication to transforming the land into a thriving deer habitat through his Trophy Land Management company. Introduced to the property by friends struggling with food plots, Craig leveraged his expertise to improve the land and monitor the wildlife. In 2023, Craig first identified Crabs, a buck that had been on his radar for two years. By 2024, Crabs grew to an impressive green score of 225 inches, featuring distinctive double drop tines. Meticulously tracking the deer's habits and using strategic land management techniques, Craig planned his hunt for early season success. He details overcoming a hot, challenging opening day, and finally succeeding under ideal wind conditions a week later. After a strategic setup in a small blind with tight wind controls, Craig got the perfect shot and harvested the massive trophy buck, epitomizing a three-year-long pursuit culminating in a high-reward finish.
