About this listen

E01: Casey J, aka; Strawberry Squirtcake — From Burlesque to Poetry: Art, Trauma, and the Advocacy Stage
(⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING: This episode includes brief, general mentions of trauma and abuse. Please listen with care.)
Welcome to the very first episode of Drag and Burlesque Diaries! Host Flame Foxxe (they/them) is joined by the incredibly talented Strawberry Squirtcake (she/her), a multifaceted artist whose evolution spans from theater and burlesque to powerful spoken word poetry.
In this candid conversation, Strawberry Squirtcake, also known as Casey J, explores the raw relationship between her art and personal history. She shares how trauma and past abuse directly shapes her creative expression, turning vulnerability into artistic strength. This isn't just a discussion about performance; it's a deep dive into how marginalized artists use their bodies and voices to process and reclaim their narratives.
Flame Foxxe also shares their personal motivation for launching the podcast, recounting the inspiring story of the performer who ignited their passion for performing and disability and inclusion advocacy through drag. We discuss the vision for creating a community where no performer is left backstage.
