 Nel secondo Ottocento le scrittrici si dedicarono soprattutto ai generi minori, ovvero alla letteratura per ragazzi e alla narrativa di consumo. Sul primo versante si affermarono in particolare Emma Perodi e Cordelia. Grande successo riscossero i romanzi d’appendice di Carolina Invernizio. Molto letta fu anche Neera, che nella “trilogia della donna giovane” si fece portavoce della condizione femminile.
