Vittorio Brambilla nació el 11 de noviembre de 1937, en Monza. Celebró sus 20 años maniobrando motocicletas y ganando el título nacional italiano de 175 centímetros cúbicos. Cuando no conducía motocicletas reparaba automóviles. Cuando se aburrió de las motocicletas, empezó a conducir para las categorías karting, turismo, Fórmula III, Fórmula II, Fórmula I, donde recibiría un apodo de safari africano: Il Gorilla Di Monza, El Gorila de Monza.
