Uno de los mayores enigmas de la física es entender por qué existimos, por qué, tras el Big Bang, no se produjo una aniquilación completa de la materia y la antimateria dando lugar a un universo compuesto únicamente por luz. El experimento LHCb del CERN ha observado por primera vez una asimetría entre materia y antimateria en el decaimiento de bariones, unas partículas similares a los protones y neutrones. Aunque la diferencia es minúscula, apenas un 5 % de diferencia, ofrece una clara evidencia de que la naturaleza podría no ser tan simétrica como pensábamos.
