John Shreve wuchs in den USA auf und kam im Rahmen seines Studiums nach West-Berlin. Während eines Besuchs im Ostteil der Stadt verliebte er sich in Christiane, eine DDR-Bürgerin. Eine Liebe, die durch die Trennung der Mauer und durch das ständige Misstrauen der Stasi kaum möglich schien. Er erzählt, welche Kämpfe er und seine heutige Frau führen mussten, um das Unmögliche möglich zu machen.
