Ma in paesi come lo Sri Lanka e il Myanmar i monaci buddisti sono stati invece figure centrali in movimenti che promuovono l'odio settario, abbandonando gli insegnamenti del Buddha in favore di un obiettivo più comune e terreno: il potere politico.
