Dr Stephen Townsend is a lecturer in sport sociocultural studies with the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences. His PhD investigated MuhammadAli and how he was viewed in black only newspapers during 1960-1975. Steven also nearly got the chance to meet him during this time. We discuss his research journey from sports teacher to PhD, his big hitting research team includinginternational experts, a unique story of one of the first documented domestic violence murders where the guilty pleaded insanity, the reality of academia and what it’s like to have the same job as Indiana Jones.
