About this listen

What can 100 strangers and 1,000 everyday objects teach us about ourselves—and each other?

In this episode of Disruption Lab, artist and storyteller Imran Nuri joins us to talk about what happens when you slow down, ask good questions, and truly see the world around you.

Imran is the creator of Advice from America, a powerful photojournalism project where he traveled to all of the 48 lower states in the U.S. and interviewed strangers about the advice they’d give their younger selves. Now, he’s turning his lens to objects—photographing 1,000 items like gummy bears, coins, and chips, and displaying them side by side to challenge how we perceive differences.

We explore how Imran turns personal disruption into creative energy, what it means to build trust with strangers, and how art can shift our assumptions in unexpected ways. His work invites us to find beauty in the ordinary, wisdom in others, and connection in the simplest things.

This conversation is a reminder that even in a divided world, we’re far more alike than we think.
