"Wir müssen unsere Währung auf die Zukunft vorbereiten", sagte EZB-Chefin Christine Lagarde zur Einführung des digitalen Euros. Der digitale Euro ist eine CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency). Vergleichbare Projekte werden bereits in über 130 Ländern entwickelt. Trotz unterschiedlicher Motivationen, für die Europäische Union sind die Unabhängigkeit von internationalen Zahlungsanbietern und die Währungshoheit über den Euroraum hervorzuheben, scheint die Zukunft den digitalen Währungen zu gehören.
