Di guerre, eroi e rivoluzioni: l’Eroica di Beethoven non nasce dal nulla. La Rivoluzione Francese aveva modificato per sempre il paesaggio sonoro dell’Europa. Le sue musiche celebrative avevano fatto irruzione anche nel teatro dell’opera. L’idea di importare a scopo programmatico tale “musica d’uso” nel linguaggio sinfonico Beethoven la ereditò, tra l’altro, dalle sinfonie a programma dedicate agli eventi bellici di quegli anni. E poi, c’era l’amato Cherubini. Ma Beethoven era Beethoven: anche ascoltata come punto d’arrivo di un percorso, la sua marcia funebre resta una devastante, “sublime” novità.
