About this listen
The Devi Mahatmyam or Glory of the Goddess is a scripture describing the story of the greatness of the Devi - Goddess Durga and how she empowered herself by killing the demons. Devi Mahatmyam is part of Markandeya Purana composed between 400-600 C.E. Devi Mahatmyam is also known as Durga Saptashati or Candi Patha. The text consists of 13 chapters with 700 verses, each invoking a different goddess. The first episode describes Goddess as Shakti, the universal form of Devi. The second episode depicts the warrior goddess, Durga; and the third episode represents Kali, the dark form of Shakti, and the Goddess of preservation and destruction.
