  • Daily Chronological Bible with Hunter Barnes - October 15, 25: Encountering Jesus: Freedom, Truth, and the Good Samaritan in John 8 and Luke 10-11
    Oct 15 2025

Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today’s episode, host Hunter guides us through the story of Jesus as revealed in passages from John 8 and Luke 10–11, reading from the New Living Translation. We hear powerful moments from Jesus’ teachings: His declaration of unity with the Father, the promise that truth sets us free, and the famous parable of the Good Samaritan that challenges us to show mercy to others. Jesus sends out the seventy-two disciples and rejoices in their authority over evil, reminding them that true joy comes from being known by God. As the disciples ask how to pray, Jesus shares the Lord’s Prayer, teaching us about shameless persistence and the generous love of our Heavenly Father. Join us as we discover how these timeless scriptures point us to the heart of God, fully revealed in Jesus—the God who is love.

    TODAY'S DEVOTION:

He is who he claims to be, and he sets us free. Throughout today’s reading, Jesus makes bold statements about his identity: “Before Abraham was even born, I am.” He speaks clearly about his relationship with the Father, his mission, and the truth that he brings into the world. His listeners are puzzled, sometimes offended, asking, “Who do you think you are?” Yet Jesus stands firm—he is sent from God, he acts on the Father’s authority, and he reveals what is true.

The truth that Jesus brings is not just a concept; it’s a person. “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” This is more than just knowing facts—it’s about a whole new belonging, a release from slavery to sin, and an invitation into the family of God. Freedom isn’t just something Jesus talks about—it’s something he delivers. If the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

We see this truth taking root in people who respond to Jesus with faith. Some become disciples; they remain faithful to his teachings. Jesus shows them that God’s heart is open, welcoming, and loving. Even when confronted with those who oppose him, he invites them to move beyond their inherited stories, their assumptions about religion and status—to see the Father in him and receive life.

And then he sends out seventy-two with his authority. They go in weakness, “as lambs among wolves,” but with the very presence and power of God. Their joy isn’t in their accomplishments or demonstrations of power, but in the simple, profound truth that their names are registered in heaven. They belong. They are loved.

What sets us free? Jesus claims to be the one who reveals the Father, and to those who listen, he offers adoption, healing, and new life. He calls us to love—God and neighbor, in practical, merciful ways, as seen in the story of the Good Samaritan. He invites us into fellowship with him, to sit at his feet and to discover “the one thing worth being concerned about.”

Today, let’s receive Jesus’ words as truth for us. Let’s remain faithful to his teachings, trusting that the Father is good, that we are loved, and that forgiveness and freedom are ours in Christ. May we live out this freedom—not as slaves to fear, regret, or performance—but as daughters and sons, set free to love and serve, guided by the Spirit, and secure in our place in God’s family.

That is my prayer for myself, for my family, and for you. May it be so.
