Psalm 139 is often cited to affirm God’s intimate knowledge of life in the womb, and Scripture fully supports that truth. Yet the language of this Psalm points to something deeper—something the text itself invites us to examine more carefully.

In this Bible study, the phrase “curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth” is examined in light of Scripture, not tradition. The Bible consistently uses the lower parts of the earth to describe the realm of death, not the womb. When Scripture is allowed to interpret Scripture, Psalm 139 emerges as a prophetic picture of Christ’s descent, His resurrection, and the forming of His body—the Church.

Key Hebrew terms such as substance, curiously wrought, and yet being unperfect reveal a work of divine power and careful construction. The Psalm speaks of members written in God’s book before they were manifested, aligning with New Testament teaching on the body of Christ and the Book of Life.

This study connects Psalm 139 with passages from Ephesians, Corinthians, Philippians, and Revelation to show how believers are joined together through the resurrection power of Christ. The Church is not an afterthought, nor a loose assembly, but a body formed through the faith of the operation of God.
