Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe Deuteronomy 32:15-18 JESHURUN GREW FAT JESHURUN STIRRED GOD TO JEALOUSY YOU FORGOT GOD Deuteronomy 6:10–12 (ESV) And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build, and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. Deuteronomy 6:14–15 (ESV) You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you— for the Lord your God in your midst is a jealous God—lest the anger of the Lord your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth. Colossians 2:8 (ESV) See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

REMEMBER THE DAYS OF OLD THE SOVEREIGN PROVIDER THE LORD FINDS, FORMS AND FILLS HIS PEOPLE Genesis 10:1 (ESV) These are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood. Isaiah 2:2 (ESV) It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, Hebrews 13:14 (ESV) For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. Matthew 5:14–16 (ESV) You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Deuteronomy 6:4–5 (ESV) Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Habakkuk 3:19 (ESV) God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places. 1 Corinthians 10:4 (ESV) and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.

THREE CYCLES First Cycle = v1-14 - The Lord Blesses Israel Second Cycle = v15-29 - Israel Provokes the Lord Third Cycle = v30-43 - The Lord’s Justice and Salvation THE ROCK The Perfection of the Rock The Justice of the Rock The Rock in the Wilderness God’s Faithfulness ss Core to the Identity of Israel The Rock was Christ THE CORRUPT Not Mere Moral Corruption Patterns of Israelite Corruption Warnings From Israelite Corruption Crooked and Twisted Generation THE FOOLISHNESS OF CORRUPTION Forgetting Who We Are The Same Pattern in Creation Gospel Faithfulness Psalm 18:30 (ESV) This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. Exodus 17:6 (ESV) Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.” And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. 2 Timothy 2:11–13 (ESV) The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself. 1 Corinthians 10:1–4 (ESV) For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:6–12 (ESV) Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; … We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. Hebrews 3:7–19 (ESV) Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, … Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ … Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. … As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? … So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. Luke 9:41 (ESV) Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you?” Acts 2:40 (ESV) And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” Romans 1:21 (ESV) For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 1 Thessalonians 5:23–24 (ESV) Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. Hebrews 10:23 (ESV) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
