About this listen

Dr. Green recalls his early family life as a middle child of nine siblings; his appreciation for his parents; and how church provided a source of self-expression, entertainment, and a safe haven for black families. Later he recalls his partnership with tennis great Arthur Ashe in their activism against racism in the apartheid regime in Africa during the 1970s.
