Als Chico Buarque im Jahr 1970 nach eineinhalb Jahren aus dem italienischen Exil heim in die brasilianische Militärdiktatur zurückkam, war er schockiert. Auf Autos klebten Sprüche wie "Brasilien, lieb es oder verlass es" oder "Brasilien, lieb es oder stirb". Im Titelsong des Albums "Construção" von 1971 verband Dichtung mit subtilen sozialen Kommentaren. Der Titel bedeutet übersetzt "im Bau" oder Baustelle. Damit konnte sowohl Brasilien gemeint sein, das neu errichtet werden sollte, die Arbeiterklasse im Land oder die kunstvolle Art, wie Chico Buarque das Album konstruiert hatte.
