  • Why Renren Galeno Drew Her Pulitzer-Nominated Comic as a Webtoon (Aftershow Preview)
    Jul 31 2025
In our Patreon-exclusive aftershow, Yan and Nat continue the conversation with Filipino visual artist Renren Galeno, illustrator of the Pulitzer-nominated webcomic "Searching for Maura," a work of comics journalism about Maura, who was trafficked from the Philippines to the United States in 1904 to be put on display at the St. Louis World's Fair. In this audio preview, Renren talks about her choice to draw the comic as a vertical scroll webtoon, and how that format gave her more tools to tell Maura's story, as well as reach a wider audience of readers.
