Romans Bible Study – Week 1 Romans 1:1–3:20

In our first session of the Romans study, we explored Paul’s introduction to the gospel and his powerful argument for humanity’s need for salvation. Paul begins by affirming the gospel as the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (1:16–17). He then unpacks the universal reality of sin—both for Gentiles and Jews—showing that all are accountable before God. By the end of chapter 3:20, Paul makes it clear that no one can be justified by works of the Law, because all have fallen short and stand in need of God’s righteousness.

    Key Themes:

    • The gospel reveals God’s righteousness (1:16–17).

    • God’s wrath is against sin, but His plan of salvation is for all people (1:18–32).

    • Both Jews and Gentiles are guilty and in need of grace (2:1–3:20).

    • The Law cannot save—it only exposes sin (3:20).

This week challenged us to see the depth of our need for Christ and prepared us to dive into the heart of the gospel in the weeks ahead.

Thank you for listening to the Coenology Podcast! Be sure to like, share, and follow for more studies and encouragement. Let this reminder of God’s righteousness and grace strengthen you as you walk with Him this week.

  • The Pouring Place
    Sep 2 2024

In John 2:1-12 we find Jesus and His disciples at the wedding at Cana in Galilee, and it is here that we are able to gain insight into the pouring place of our lives. John writes the story of Jesus so that it can be understood that while He is human, He is also divine. John emphasizes the glory of Christ. This story often times has the emphasis placed on the wine itself being made from water as the miracle but could it be about the pouring place instead? It is when we run out of who we are and all of which we can supply ourselves that we reach the pouring place in our life. Who would be better to teach about the pouring place than God Himself poured out to us?
