Mike Vronsky è un ragazzo come tanti costretto a diventare uomo con il rito di passaggio più atroce di tutti, la guerra. Nel suo caso stiamo parlando della Guerra in Vietnam. Spesso, i riti di passaggio sgretolano le certezze, distruggono tutto quello che fino ad allora è stato costruito, per lasciare solo una terra desolata, dove quello che sembrava giusto e bello è ormai divelto.
