Durante el siglo V d.C. En ese tiempo, China enfrentaba amenazas constantes de los invasores bárbaros, y el Emperador emitió un decreto que obligaba a todas las familias a enviar a un hombre al ejército para defender el país.
Pero en la familia Hua, solo había una hija: Mulán. Aunque las convenciones sociales y las expectativas de género eran estrictas, Mulán no pudo soportar la idea de que su anciano padre, ya veterano de guerra, tuviera que ir a la batalla nuevamente.
