  • #388 - Kathryn Porter: The UK Energy Crisis
    Aug 10 2025

In this episode of Chatter, Josh Hamilton is joined by Kathryn Porter to ask why the UK is paying the highest energy costs in the developed world? Why isn't the cost of electric falling when the price of gas falls? Why aren't renewables making our energy cheaper? Are wind and solar cheaper than fossil fuels? Is net zero a bad idea? We cover all this and more including:

    - The hidden (and not-so-hidden) costs of wind and solar

    - How decades of energy mismanagement have left our grid vulnerable

    - Why nuclear might be the only sensible path forward

    - The reality of where your green energy really comes from

Kathryn Porter is an energy consultant and the founder of Watt-Logic, a UK-based consultancy focused on energy markets, regulation, and strategy. She’s widely regarded for her sharp, data-driven insights and for being an outspoken critic of poorly designed energy policy—particularly in the UK.

She’s best known for challenging the mainstream energy narrative, particularly around renewables, carbon pricing, and the economics of net zero—often arguing that current policies are driving up costs and risking the stability of the energy system.

  • #387 - Freddie New: Private Equity Is A Curse
    Jul 11 2025

What really happened to Britain’s economy? Why does it feel like everything’s getting more expensive, yet we’re getting less in return? In this episode, I sat down with Freddie New — a former private equity lawyer and now Chief Policy Officer at Bitcoin Policy UK — to break down some of the biggest questions about money, power, and the state of the UK economy. From North Sea oil and the squandered opportunity to build a trillion-pound sovereign wealth fund, to the shady mechanics of Thames Water and private equity takeovers, this chat goes deep.

We also got into the messy world of government debt, why we pay interest on money we literally print ourselves, and whether the Bank of England is still fit for purpose. Freddie had some incredibly sharp takes on the dangers of CBDCs (central bank digital currencies), the importance of cash, and why controlling money is the fastest shortcut to controlling people. If you've ever wondered why things feel broken — or where the money actually goes — this one’s for you.

Oh, and if you’ve ever been hit with insane Visa or Mastercard fees, or wondered why Bitcoin might actually be useful for real people, not just crypto nerds — we covered that too. It’s a wide-ranging convo about finance, freedom, and how we take back control from the systems quietly draining us. Enjoy the episode, and don’t forget to hit subscribe if you want more like this!

  • #386 - John Perkins: Confessions Of An Economic Hitman
    Jun 25 2025

John Perkins is a former economist and author best known for his book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, where he claims to have helped the U.S. government and corporations manipulate developing countries through debt. The book documents Perkins’ eye-opening experiences as an economist embroiled in geopolitics, covert operations, and the far-reaching impact of Western intervention in countries like Iran. His role was to convince foreign leaders to accept massive loans for infrastructure projects, trapping them in long-term dependency. We talked about his experiences as an "economic hitman," sharing eye-opening stories about U.S. involvement in foreign countries like Iran and the consequences of putting nations into debt for resources and influence. We also talked about the difference between "death" and "life" economies, the potential for real change in international institutions, and what we can learn from indigenous ways of living in harmony with nature. We also touched on personal transformation, the power of perception, and how each of us can make a positive impact, no matter where we are.Confessions of an Economic Hit Man - https://amzn.to/468EjX5 John's Website - https://johnperkins.org/00:00 - Iran vs Israel04:53 - Iranian Resentment and U.S. Policies08:21 - Expat Language Barriers in Iran11:02 - Clandestine Meetings14:44 - Using Debt for Resource Control18:32 - Trump Disbands USAID21:07 - Economic Hitman Traits25:21 - Well-Connected Friends29:22 - Encouraged to Join Peace Corps30:11 - Manufactured Politicians and Intelligence Influence34:11 - Respect for Indigenous Nature Philosophy38:00 - Nature-Integrated Urban Living41:55 - Pedestrianising Cities44:08 - Leaving The Military Industrial Complex49:42 - Personal Development50:46 - Facing What's Blocking You54:05 - Mayans and The Amazon58:00 - Witnessing Human Evolution-----------------------------------------------------PRE-ORDER MY GAMESTOP BOOK - https://wen-moon.com
