Le vent soufflait fort ce matin-là sur
les hauteurs de Bastos. Romuald s’habilla comme à son habitude,
lisse, ordonné, précis. Mais au fond de lui, quelque chose se
relâchait. Une corde invisible, une vigilance spirituelle qu’il
croyait infaillible.
Stéphanie ne lui adressa qu’un léger
salut en passant devant lui, sans baiser, sans prière commune. Il le
sentit. Ce n’était plus une tension. C’était un gouffre.
Mais
au lieu d’y jeter une corde, il détourna les yeux. Il se réfugia
dans ses dossiers, ses diagnostics, ses examens cardiaques. Ironie
cruelle : il réparait les cœurs des autres alors que le sien se
fendait lentement, de manière sourde, comme une fissure dans un
barrage.....
