About this listen

Members of the South Asian Community often go through similar experiences, but don’t discuss problems outside of family out of concern for ‘what the community will say’. Over time, this has led to taboo topics, isolation, oppression, and inequality. And enough is enough. Hosted by second generation British South Asian sisters Taj and Bal, the Changing Suits podcast helps members of the South Asian Community across generation, gender, and geography develop a common understanding and awareness of issues affecting the community, so that the community can thrive. The podcast also gives people outside of the community an opportunity to deepen their understanding of South Asian culture and values so they can help build services, companies, and a society that are better and more inclusive. Tune in each week for a closer look at modern South Asian life with a dose of tradition.

  • 3 Worlds, 3 Generations | Navigating three perspectives
    Feb 27 2026

What is it really like growing up in a multigenerational South Asian household?

In this episode of The Cultural Barrier Podcast, Taj and Bal explore the realities of living under one roof with grandparents, parents, and children — navigating three generations, three perspectives, and often, three very different worlds.

They reflect on their experience of extended family life, the deep connection they had with their grandparents, and why many younger children today may not experience that same closeness. From shared responsibilities and cultural expectations to humour, conflict, and harmony, they unpack the quirks and unspoken rules of multigenerational living.

    This episode dives into:

    • Growing up in an extended South Asian family
    • The impact of grandparents on identity and values
    • How family dynamics are changing across generations
    • Which traditions to preserve — and which ones to let go

Join Taj and Bal for an honest, lively conversation about culture, family, and what it means to bridge tradition and modern life.

Perfect for listeners interested in South Asian culture, intergenerational relationships, identity, parenting, and multigenerational households.

  • Is Your Life Just a Checklist? South Asian Pressure, Marriage, Parenting & Success in 2026
    Feb 20 2026

Is your life starting to feel like one long checklist?

In this episode, Taj and Bal unpack how South Asian culture and family expectations often push us through life via tick boxes - education, career, marriage, children, and “success” - without stopping to ask why.

But is this checklist-driven life still relevant in 2026?

    We explore:

    * The pressure to “do life in the right order”
    * Marriage and parenting expectations in South Asian families
    * Education, career success, and comparison culture
    * What happens when you don’t tick the boxes
    * Redefining success, happiness, and fulfilment on your own terms

Whether you’re navigating family pressure, questioning traditional timelines, or feeling stuck in comparison mode, this episode challenges you to pause and ask: Is this life actually mine?
