• Casual Friday: Chicago Dumpster Fire
    Sep 22 2023

It's not been a great week for the Chicago Bears. Also, the Vikings trading for RB Cam Akers doesn't signal anything about Alex Mattison. Taking a quick look at college football this weekend, too.

  • Talking Screenplay and Media with Van Hayden
    Sep 20 2023

I've known Van Hayden for a while during my time in Minneapolis, and have been long fascinated by his career (seriously, check his IMDB page—it's amazing). We've spoken often, and I've long looked forward to an extended conversation, where we can speak candidly and at length about a range of topics. Here's but half of it (the other half is off the record).

  • Colorado/CSU, NFL, and the WNBA
    Sep 18 2023

I was pleased with Colorado beating Colorado State—mostly because we've been spared weird takes. Between that, the NFL and the WNBA, it was a good weekend.

  • Stephen Manas and Life After "Ted Lasso"
    Sep 13 2023

Life comes at you fast. Meet French native Stephen Manas with me—his first major acting role for an American audience was as AFC Richmond footballer Richard Montlaur in the massively-popular AppleTV+ show "Ted Lasso." We discuss life before setting himself on the path toward acting (and music), how to keep one's mind open to life's possibilities, and why saxophone is the hands-down most desirable instrument one can play.

  • MNUFC's D.J. Taylor on Marriage, Masculinity & Fashion
    Sep 6 2023

I always enjoy chopping it up with D.J. Taylor. He's a defender for Minnesota United Football Club, launched Venci (his clothing line) during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic and, as a proponent for men caring strongly for our own mental health, has a lot of fantastic thoughts about what makes a man a better partner. We talk some soccer, too.

  • Madison McGhee: Investigating an Ice Cold Case
    Aug 30 2023

I don't do a lot of "true crime," because much of it is needlessly vapid. Not this story. I've known Madison McGhee for years, and while many of us took up breadmaking (or sneaker collecting, if you're me) during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, she instead took up trying to solve the 20-year-old open case regarding the murder of John Cornelius "J.C." McGhee—her own father—and now she's renovating a house (her best advice: "don't buy a house).

Listen to Ice Cold Case wherever you're listening to this podcast, and check out the website for detailed accounts and all the material she's collected during her investigation.

  • Casual Friday: Men, Faced with Consequences, Play the Victim
    Aug 25 2023

Did any of us actually think Luis Rubiales (President of Spain's Soccer Federation) would go away quietly and contritely? His stubbornness and hubris keep doing damage. Northwestern ex-Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald's "image rehab" tour is woefully inadequate. And... #15 Canada beat the brakes off of #5 France in the FIBA World Cup group stage opener. Plus, if you're in Minnesota, enjoy yourself at the State Fair! I tend to avoid fairs without a compelling reason.
