在此我們需要認識到的是信守自己思想的人只不過是宗教的從業人員。所以，當耶穌在世上時，這類宗教信仰者，法利賽人也因為禮儀問題攻擊他和他的門徒。施洗約翰的門徒也帶著懷疑的目光質問耶穌:“我們常常禁食，你的門徒倒不禁食，這是為什麼呢？”
不幸的是，大多數基督徒仍為這樣的宗教從業人員。相比較，耶穌真正要我們追求的東西完全不同。正如今天經文的第一段所示，耶穌是賜予我們赦罪的真神。因此，他對癱子說:“小子，放心吧！你的罪赦了。”
