Dengan melihat kepada kenyataan bahwa sebelum ia ditebus dagingnya berada di bawah kutuk kematian oleh Hukum Allah, Rasul Paulus membuat pengakuan iman bahwa ia, dengan percaya kepada Yesus Kristus, mati terhadap dosa. Sebelum kita bertemu dengan kebenaran Allah—yaitu, sebelum kita dilahirkan kembali—mereka yang percaya kepada Kristus biasa hidup di bawah penguasaan dan kutuk hukum Taurat. Jadi, hukum Taurat akan tetap menguasai kita kalau kita tidak ditebus dari segala dosa kita melalui pertemuan dengan Yesus Kristus, yang membawa kebenaran Allah kepada kita.
