我知道你和我都为欲望而奋斗。雅各书 4:1写道:“你们中间的争战斗殴是从哪里来的呢？不是从你们自体中战斗之私欲来的吗？”圣经在约翰一书中把私欲说成肉体的情欲，眼目的情欲和今生的骄傲。
