马太福音第一章详细地描写了耶稣的诞生。按人类的逻辑来讲，童女没有和男人一起生活过，不可能生孩子。只有在男人和女人有了性关系才可能怀孕。因此，纵观历史，这种特别的出身只有在神话里才能看到。可是，这在神是可能的。
如果仔细地检查耶稣诞生的原因，我们就不难理解。实质上是神的耶稣基督以肉身从童女玛利亚出生，为的是将他的百姓拯救出一切的罪孽。换句话说，为了将罪人拯救出他们的罪孽，他只得作为救世主亲自降临。为了拯救罪人，这就需要一个无罪的神来赎救我们的罪(约翰一书 2:2)，他就是耶稣基督，他自己就是神。
