黙示録 5 章には、七つの封印で封じられた巻き物が登場し、それをイエスが取られました。これは、イエスが神のすべての権威と権力を委ねられ、以後、神のご計画に従って世界をお導きになることを意味しています。黙示録 8 章の冒頭には、「小羊が第七の封印を解いたとき、天に半時間ばかり静けさがあった。それから私は、神の御前に立つ七人の御使いを見た。彼らに七つのラッパが与えられた。」という聖句があります。このように、イエスは巻き物の第七の封印を開いて、これから起こることを私たちに示しているのです。
